Essay --
Blade Runner is exemplified as a dystopia that predicts a future city that sustains corporate capitalismââ¬â¢s worst features, such as urban decay, extreme gaps between wealth and poverty, and authoritative police work. The film depicts an urban city that, due to capitalism, coalesced into a polluted, overpopulated city controlled by monopolies. Roger Ebert describes the city, Los Angeles, in the film as, "The skies are always dark with airborne filth in this Los Angeles of the future. It usually rains. The infrastructure looks a lot like now, except older and more crowded." He believes the film has "one of the most extraordinary worlds ever created..." and gives it the honor of joining his greatest movies collection. This film is a multi-genre filmââ¬â science fiction and film noirââ¬â which creates a very unique stylistic world. The film is characterized in the science fiction genre with flying vehiclesââ¬â police cars and advertising blimpsââ¬â, the futuristic city with congested streets, and advanced technologyââ¬âpicturesque billboards, Voight-Kampf machine, picture phones, and voice activated photo analyzers. It also depicts the movie genre of film noir with its low-key lighting consistent throughout Bryantââ¬â¢s office and Deckardââ¬â¢s apartment, the claustrophobic framing with various charactersââ¬âthe overcrowded nightclubââ¬â, heavy shadows caused by venetian blinds in Deckardââ¬â¢s apartment, and the rain soaked landscapes during the night. The scene I chose takes place after Deckard has ââ¬Å"retiredâ⬠two replicants, and has discovered the location Roy Beatty and Pris. The scene follows Deckard as he hunts down Pris, right before the final encounter where he battles Roy. I chose this scene for its attention to detail and captivating visual aesthetic. It ... ...l map of the location in our minds. This suspense continues to build until he meets Pris and she attacks him. The cuts get immediately more frequent and induce a feeling of shock and surprise in the audience. Framing is another way Ridley Scott compares the futuristic to the classical. For example, in the opening shots of this scene, the landscape depicts one of the main themes of the filmââ¬â a relationship between classical and futuristic. In the establishing shot of this scene, European style apartments cover the foreground and the neon city landscape dominates the background. This separation of the buildings shows the divide between the old and new societies in the film. While the two building are far apart in reality, the camera creates the illusion that they are side by side and places Deckard in the middle, giving him a choice between the familiar and unknown.

Antigone :: essays research papers
Justice is a word we hear today all the time. Left and right we hear of judges and citizens demanding justice. Is justice always the right way? It seems that justice is not always the correct solution to a problem, but a solution that is the easiest to make. The classic play Antigone is a perfect example of this. Antigone is classic tragedy at its finest. A simple civilized and humane right of burying a loved one is turned into a great loss. Creonââ¬â¢s inapt decision to hold his power and sentence Antigone to death causes him to lose the people he loves most. The ââ¬Å"justiceâ⬠of the play is simply Creonââ¬â¢s punishment for his cruelty to Antigone. à à à à à When Antigone learns that no one is to bury her brother, she immediately knows what she must do. She doesnââ¬â¢t even hesitate to her decision and she is fully willing to face the consequences to do what is right. She believes that what she is doing is just a humane right and sheââ¬â¢s willing to die for what she believes in. She even tells Creon that what heââ¬â¢s doing is against what the gods wanted and that his laws were worthless. She states: ââ¬Å"Not through dread of any human pride could I answer to the gods for breaking these.â⬠It seems that gods are almost speaking to Creon through Antigone and warning him of his decision. à à à à à Antigone is almost hailed to a god like status, as Oedipus was before her. She is extremely strong and unbelievably willing to sacrifice everything in the name of honor and pride. She so easily makes her decisions and chooses to die willingly without a second thought. The minute Creon questions her on breaking the law, she states: ââ¬Å"Die I must, -I knew that well (how should I not?)-even without thy edicts.â⬠What is even more is that Antigone was a woman, a woman in a time of extreme male domination. This makes her even stronger of a person in the play and shows the growing strength of the gender that we know of today. à à à à à The blind sear once again plays the roll of an extremely reliable, but ignored person. He warns Creon of his terrible mistake but when Creon goes to change his wrongs, he finds out its too late. Creon is given more than enough warnings of his fate as Antigone states in the play: ââ¬Å"And if my present deeds are foolish in thy sight, it may be that a foolish judge arraigns my folly.

Love at First Sight- Personal Narrative
A moment in time where two people feel a powerful connection towards one another is classified as ââ¬Å"Love at First Sight. â⬠To most, love at first sight is true and can happen to anybody, however, to others, it is just a myth and can be simplified as a problem that can be solved through science or a belief they have. I myself did believe in this theory, but with time I began to understand that it could have easily just have been a sham. But then again, it also could have just been ââ¬Å"Teen Love. â⬠As I grew up, I would spend a great amount of time watching television.Normally, youââ¬â¢d expect a child to grow up watching cartoons and progressing from that point, but I had preferred to watch a teenage or adult program. Within these programs, I had noticed that there were many cases in which two people, whether itââ¬â¢d be boy to boy, girl to boy, or girl to girl, caught eyes for the very first moment in time and they went through a series of twist and turns un til the end where they finally end up happily together with a strong and powerful bond. Just about a year ago, I met the love of my teenage life.His name was Alec and he was a very handsome and interesting young man. The first time I met him was an unforgettable moment. I was with my friends at the movies and we were just standing there ordering our tickets to The Uninvited, when I feel a smack from behind me. ââ¬Å"Sorry,â⬠he said. I looked at him and had a sudden moment of silence. He spoke again, ââ¬Å"Can I buy your ticket? â⬠ââ¬Å"No, thatââ¬â¢s okay. â⬠I told him. ââ¬Å"Well can I at least get you some popcorn or something? â⬠I laughed, ââ¬Å"I really donââ¬â¢t like popcorn, but you can get me a slushy? He laughed, ââ¬Å"Okay, just as long as you let me join you and your friends,â⬠he paused for a minute, ââ¬Å"if you donââ¬â¢t mind of course. â⬠ââ¬Å"We would not mind at all,â⬠I said as I tried to hold back the biggest smile ready to come out. We stood there for a while, just looking at each other and smiling. ââ¬Å"Well after you â⬠¦ What was your name again? â⬠he said with a smile. By the end of the movie, I was able to truthfully say that that was the greatest event of my life. ââ¬Å"So, can I have you number? â⬠he continued, ââ¬Å"You know, to call you later tonight. â⬠I gave him a big smile and said, ââ¬Å"Yeah, totally! After I gave him my number get gave me a hug and said, ââ¬Å"It was really great meeting you here. Iââ¬â¢m glad I smacked you. â⬠We both laughed as we said our goodbyes. It had been six months that weââ¬â¢ve gone out and I couldnââ¬â¢t help but think we might end up having the relationship just like the programââ¬â¢s Iââ¬â¢ve seen on the television. Then I noticed a sudden change of affection. It wasnââ¬â¢t a bad affection as to where he ignored me and tried to avoid talking to me, but it was the affection in where he wouldn ââ¬â¢t leave me out of his sight as if he were hiding something and the guilt was caving in.After my birthday, he invited me to spend the night at his house because his parents wanted to have a special birthday dinner just for me. I was really excited, I didnââ¬â¢t know that him, or his parents would go through the trouble of doing this for me. As soon as dinner was over, Alec took me to his room and sat me on his bed. He gave me the plan on what we were going to do for the rest of the night. I was very excited on what he had planned. ââ¬Å"But thereââ¬â¢s one thing I need tell you,â⬠there was a long pause. ââ¬Å"What is it? â⬠I replied. ââ¬Å"I just wanted to let you know that I really do love you.And I hope our relationship is strong enough to withhold anything. â⬠he said with a shaky voice. Many things were popping in and out of my head after he had said that. ââ¬Å"I did cheat on you, this one time and it was never meant it to happen. â⬠When he finished his sentence, I was in complete shock. I didnââ¬â¢t know what to do. I didnââ¬â¢t want to stay there and let out all my feelings at him. So I went with his sister and told her everything. I practically dumped out all my feelings and confusion into our conversation. It was the most horrible day I had ever experienced.On the very first day I was with Alec, I did think it was love at first sight. No matter how much I would like to experience that moment again, I know that I will never trust that feeling again. I now know that ââ¬Å"Love at First Sight,â⬠is just a belief system to where people want something to fall back on or some romantic story they want to tell their children. Whether it was ââ¬Å"Teen Loveâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Love at First Sight,â⬠that one little spark, that determines your affection towards one another, will never return due to the experience that I went through.

The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Reservation
The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Reservation is a Native American reserve which has been through a batch in history. This Tribe used to be many folks so combined into one many old ages ago. Uniting all the traditions was one thing, lasting the land being taking, expiration and Restoration are all things many people do non cognize approximately. History books for grade school instruction have created false history merely late allowing the truth be reviled. This folk has gone through a batch but still stands strong. The Reservation is in West Oregon located 12 stat mis from Newport. For my concluding paper I have gone to research the reserve, had many interviews, talked to seniors, read parts of the history book about the folk and looked on the web site. I am a Siletz Indian but was ne'er taught any of the traditions or knew most of the history, this undertaking and category have given me the chance to make so. The first clip I of all time went to my reserve I was anticipating something beautiful, and that I would ne'er bury. Not stating that is non beautiful or that I would of all time bury it but letââ¬â¢s say it was non what I was anticipating. It is the stereotyped little town, poorness, intoxicant and drug usage. There is tonss of smoke, imbibing, fleshiness and diabetes on the reserve. At first I didnââ¬â¢t understand why these things were such large issues. But I have late come to recognize why and I now understand my grandfatherââ¬â¢s concluding for go forthing and ne'er truly learning my brother and I the history or the traditions. For many old ages I was angry about this, I was besides angry about non acquiring to travel to or populate on the reserve but I am no longer angry with my Grandpa, I can see why he did all that he did to acquire off and do a better state of affairs for his household. The ground the folk is called ââ¬Å"Confederated folks ofâ⬠is because when Oregon was first being taken over there were folks all over. The 1s in South Oregon and Northern Cali were pushed over to Siletz. For the white adult male seting Indians on reserves was called ââ¬Å"getting rid of the Indian problemâ⬠. The folk that came together to do Siletz spoke around 11 different linguistic communications. There were many Tribes which were forced to travel together they include ââ¬Å"Clatsop, Chinook, Klickitat, Molala, Kalapuya, Tillamook, Alsea, Siuslaw/Lower Umpqua, Coos, Coquelle, Upper Umpqua, Tututni ( including all the lower Rogue River Bands and those widening up the seashore to Floras Creek and down to Whales Head ) , Chetco ( including all of the small towns from Whales Head to the Winchuck River ) , Tolowa, Takelma ( including the Illinois Valley/mid-Rogue River and Cow Creek peoples ) , Galice/Applegate, and Shastaâ⬠( Part 1, Paragraph 6 ) . Bing a coastal folk and life off the land and its resources the chief nutrient they ate was fish, shellfish and whale. Though they were put on the reserves they were told non to make many traditional things like have huddles. However they would hold huddles around the American vacations and say that they were making vacation related things. Besides when traveling households to reserves they would direct kidsââ¬â¢ grade school ages to get oning schools. The one most of the Siletz childs went to is in Salem and it is called Chemawa. At the get oning school the small misss would hold their hair chopped away and the male childs would acquire shaved. They were forced to larn about Christianity, how to move and eat decently. They had to alter everything they learned as kids and follow new ââ¬Å"rulesâ⬠of life. Many of the older kids would move out and either acquire beaten or kicked out of the school. My great-great grandparents were two that acted out, they besides got kicked out after acqui ring pregnant. When the expiration Torahs started go oning Siletz was one that it hit hard. The Natives no longer had rights to the land and its resources and since everyone was now considered black or white, they were white. It says white on my grampss and parents birth certifications. It was during the expiration period that Natives gazing going really low category and holding imbibing jobs. This has led to many jobs that are still on reserves today but we will speak about that later on. Another go oning during this clip was Natives acquiring ill and deceasing from deathly diseases they got exposed to. After making more research about this I found out that it was before contact with the Europeans that tribes in Oregon were acquiring ill. The Tribes from the E warning them about the white work forces had spread lifelessly pandemics. One-half of my great-great grand-parents kids died for TB. When Lewis and Clark came to the state in 1805 when they explored the Northwest to happen that many small to wns ââ¬Å"de-populated by diseaseâ⬠( Part 2 Paragraph 5 ) . My whole life I was told that Lewis and Clark coming over was when the land was get downing to acquire taken over. I had no thought that there were so many old ages when colonists merely left the Natives be in Northwest and merely had contact with them when researching ââ¬Å"most white contact with our people before 1845 or so was fugitive, dwelling of bargainers, trappers, adventurers of different sortâ⬠( Part 4 Paragraph 1 ) . The first existent jurisprudence covering with the people of the Northwest and new colonists was a ââ¬Å" Northwest Regulation â⬠in 1787 stating the Natives that their land and rights will be protected. This jurisprudence was taken back in 1846. Then following large jurisprudence we learned about in category ââ¬Å"The Oregon Donation actâ⬠which was promised land given any new colonist in the country. This is when all the reserves were established. In 1951 there were battles get downing to go on, small towns being attacked. The colonists were naming this the ââ¬Å"extermination movementâ⬠. When the folks were being taken to Siletz most of the work forces were shot and adult female and kids were marched at that place, this took many trips. Not merely covering with seeking to talk the same linguistic communication, but the folks that came together had different ways of shelter and nutrient, this caused a batch of jobs at foremost. They had to work together while bei ng forced to go ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠. One thing that was really interesting to larn was what the folk usage to utilize as money. They use these thin white shells called Dentalium shell. These are now made into beautiful jewellery. They use to be traded until paper money was created. There was a jurisprudence passed in 1924 called ââ¬Å"Indian Citizenship Actâ⬠, this was stating all Native Americans that they were now portion of the United States and no longer considered Natives. It was 37 old ages and 4 months ago that the Siletz reserve was given their land back. In award of this they have an one-year Restoration huddles head at their casino in Lincoln City. This is in award of their rights. They restoration allowed each folk that is recognized by the authorities to have a casino. The one owned by Siletz is called Chinook Winds Casino ; it is located about 45 stat mis from the reserve. Some of the tradition and manner the folk is structured today is by royalty, a authorities council and a whip work forces and adult females. All the royalty is adult females, who represent the folk by traveling to powwows all around the US and viing in dance and membranophone competitions. The membranophone group is called the ââ¬Å"West Coast Boyzâ⬠. The royalty consists of Miss Siletz, Jr. Miss Siletz and small Miss Siletz. They are chosen one time a twelvemonth to be the representative for that twelvemonth and scope in different age groups. The council consists of nine members elected every 3 old ages for a 3 twelvemonth period. The vote regulations are same as the remainder of Oregon and any member can vote at the age of 18 or older. The Tribes president is a adult female and she has been president for I believe my whole life. She represents the folk at Unite States authorities Native events and has had multiple meetings with the United States presidents. To be enrolled in the folk your blood has to be 1/16 Siletz or higher. There used to be so many tribal members that we could non maintain path but today is a small over 5,000 members. Each member is given a figure which represents how long they have been enrolled and helps with fiscal things. I talked to my gramps about his experience of turning up on the reserve. His name is Howard Fleming, my gramps does non wish to speak about this is it was difficult to acquire it out of him. My gramps was the youngest of four. He use to acquire in problem all the clip, the instructors at his school did non like Indians. All of his friends and siblings were bad. They got called atrocious names like ââ¬Å"half-breedâ⬠. People didnââ¬â¢t like his household because his ma was white. I said earlier that my great-great grandparents were kicked out of chemawa for acquiring pregnant, they had 5 kids. Three of them passed off from the disease pandemics. My great gramps married a white adult female and was disowned by most of his household. He was the 1 who got an allocation of land that was taken off after the expiration period. My grandfather had a difficult clip being on the reserve back so, acquiring in problem, all the racism and observation, any people ruin their lives because they didnââ¬â¢t think they had anything else to make. My grandfather moved off when he was 17 and didnââ¬â¢t travel back for many old ages. Now he takes my brother and I to the huddle one time a twelvemonth in the summer. The Tribe still has many traditions, non all that they use to but still a few that I know of. They have an one-year huddle every twelvemonth the 2nd weekend in August. It is the biggest 1 in the Northwest. Tribes from all over the state come to vie in the dance and membranophone competitions. One thing that I have really done with my Grandfather is on Memorial Day weekend we got the Gravess of our household. We clean the Gravess by picking weeds and grass out of the rectangle of soil covering where the coffin lies, we clean the caput rocks and we put fresh soil the hill of soil were the coffin lies. This is all out of regard, it is respectful non to walk on them so by seeing were they lie you donââ¬â¢t measure on them. Turning up I didnââ¬â¢t understand of these things and why we do them but I am larning. I wish I could be more involved in the folk but I do non fault my grandfather for anything he did. Traveling to the reserve now is really particular to me. Standing by the river hearing to the beating cognizing what all has happened there I get a feeling that is difficult to explicate but I know I am in the right topographic point. Talking to my grandfather, traveling to the reserve and taking this category has taught me a batch. I have truly enjoyed researching and it makes me happy that I have chosen the right major for me. I am majoring in public wellness and minoring in cultural surveies because I want to work on the reserve. I want to assist the poorness, disease and dependence on the reserve. I want people to recognize that times have changed a batch and itââ¬â¢s Oklahoma to travel out and make things! I besides truly desire to alter that ? of the folk are corpulent. As a non so amusing gag my pa one time said to me ââ¬Å"you could ne'er be Miss Siletz because you donââ¬â¢t weigh 300 poundsâ⬠. This is non nice or amusing but sadly it is true that the royalty are really over weight. One twenty-four hours I would wish to be able to dance or sing. I am non certain who will learn me but I will seek to larn. I love my civilization and I am really proud to be Native American. I am proud of the history and what my household has overcome. Writing this paper was a great chance for me to larn more about my civilization and tribe itself. Explain the Function of Assessments in Learning and Development
GROUP C ââ¬â KNOWLEDGE BASED UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES AND REQUIREMENTS OF ASSESSMENT 1. 1 EXPLAIN THE FUNCTION OF ASSESSMENT IN LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT Assessment can be used for many different purposes, including to identify studentsââ¬â¢ needs, plan and adapt courses, check that learning is taking place, motivate students, acknowledge learning and measure results. Assessment is used for various purposes. * Assessment for learning: where assessment helps teachers gain insight into what students understand in order to plan and guide instruction, and provide helpful feedback to students. Assessment as learning: where students develop an awareness of how they learn and use that awareness to adjust and advance their learning, taking responsibility for their learning. * Assessment of learning: where assessment informs students and teachers, as well as the broader educational community, of achievement at a certain point in time in order to celebrate success and support continued progress. Assessment must be planned with its purpose in mind. Assessment for, as and of learning all have a role to play in supporting and improving student learning, and must be appropriately balanced.The most important part of assessment is the interpretation and use of the information that is gathered for its intended purpose. Research and experience show that student learning is best supported when * Instruction and assessment are based on clear learning goals * Instruction and assessment are differentiated according to student learning needs * Students are involved in the learning process (they understand the learning goal and the criteria for quality work, receive and use descriptive feedback, and take steps to adjust their performance) Assessment is carried out to ensure that learning has taken place.If you do not assess the student you cannot assess their knowledge and skills in their learning area. The student needs guidance to understand what it is they have to learn, if they are doing well and how they may improve. Assessment is essential for this to happen. Assessment encourages students to ask questions on anything they have not fully understood and allows them to build on their strengths and learn from mistakes by listening to the assessorââ¬â¢s feedback.It is important that assessments are both valid and reliable. Validity relates to the question ââ¬â does the assessment measure what it claims or appears to measure and can we make judgements based on the results of the assessment? The assessment must form a fair and balanced representation of the area of knowledge being assessed. Reliability relates to the accuracy of the marks or grades that result from the completion of the assessment.The results would need to be the same if the assessment was carried out by another person or directed to a similar student. In addition to being valid and reliable, assessments should also be: * Authentic ââ¬â based on the candidateââ¬â¢s own work * Current ââ¬â Still relevant/able to be completed at the time of the assessment * Sufficient ââ¬â covering all the required elements. International Normalization Ratio (INR) home testing devices Essay
International Normalization Ratio (INR) home testing devices - Essay Example Thus, it makes strategic sense for all hospital departments, including the Accident and Emergency (A&E) unit within a hospital, to maintain electronic patient record systems, which present clinical and nursing notes, patient data, treatment history, etc. to assist with care. Life and death decisions in the A&E unit within a hospital are quick and clear and legible information is essential to administer proper treatment. This project report presents a discussion about electronic patient record systems that incorporate standardized nursing language for the A&E unit within a hospital. Consideration of the Keogh Medical Systems Electronic Patient Record System, the Ascribe Symphony system and the Siren ePCR that enables information collection in ambulances concludes that the ideal electronic patient record system for an A&E unit within a hospital combines the Ascribe Symphony system and the Siren ePCR system. This combination presents a capacity for timely information flow right from fir st contact with a patient. (This page intentionally left blank) Introduction McGonigle and Mastrian (2011) suggest that the use of informatics in healthcare is increasing because a need exists for adequate knowledge about the progression of various ailments for application of the right therapy. Thus, nursing professionals are now information dependent knowledge workers who must maintain accurate nursing records in information systems for accurate depiction of the care process and the results presented by this. However, it is impossible for medicine, nursing or any other healthcare related discipline to present accurate electronic records without resorting to a standardized language or vocabulary that accurately depicts the real-life condition of a patient at any point in time. According to Rutherford (2008), doctors, nurses and other health professionals should be able to read a record for a patient, maintained as an electronic document, to seek an accurate assessment of the situati on without getting confused about what really transpired. Knowledge imparted by accurate records benefits care because everyone knows what happened without ambiguity to decide about what needs doing. However, any inaccuracies result in confusion that presents an adverse impact on the delivery of appropriate care for a patient. Thus, nursing information systems that maintain computerized electronic records based on the standardized nursing language are now essential for hospitals in which a wide variety of health professionals must make the right decisions at all times based on these records to deliver the most appropriate care for a large number of patients. According to McGonigle and Mastrian (2011), nursing informatics systems should permit for accurate knowledge acquisition for the health situation for patients, precise knowledge processing, knowledge dissemination without any adulteration and accurate knowledge generation. However, if depiction of information in a nursing inform atics system presents flaws, the nursing informatics system is likely to present errors. This adds to the impetuous for ensuring accurate transcription of electronic records into the system, and the standardized language ensures that this is possible. Rutherford (2008) states that

Kant Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Kant - Essay Example In addition, these laws are not only made by these beings, but these beings are also subject to the laws, which have been made. Every rational or human nature is based on the autonomy of the beings, which is practiced by them. The categorical imperative is at the center of the philosophical concept as espoused in the moral philosophy of Kant and it may be used as a way of determining the motivations that bring about the actions of human beings. Kant's view is that all human beings occupy an unusual place in the creation, and this makes them immensely rational creatures that were given the ultimate commandment of reason. Therefore, it is from this command of reason that all the duties and obligations that are observed by rational creatures are derived (McKinnon 844). Moreover, Kant defined an imperative as any suggestion that stated a certain activity or inactivity taken by a rational being to be necessary. A categorical imperative shows an implicit requirement, which is independent; that it affirms its authority in all situations that are required and justified as ends in themselves. In addition, Kant in his work expressed the extreme dissatisfaction he felt with the moral philosophy that was extremely popular in his time believing that this philosophy would never be able to surpass the level of hypothetical imperatives. A utilitarian in Kant's time would have said that the murder was wrong because of the fact that it did not make best use of the good in those people who were involved but that this was inappropriate for those people who were anxious with the maximization of the optimistic outcomes, which would come for themselves. Because of this, Kant argued that the morals systems that were based on the hypothetical could not persuade moral actions, or be regarded as the basis of moral arguments against others, this is because their imperatives were largely based on the subjective. Therefore, as an alternative Kant conferred an option in a moralistic system t hat was based on the categorical imperative (O'Hagan 525). Kant like the utilitarians based his moral theory on the intrinsic value but this is the only similarities between these moral values. This is where utilitarianism takes happiness to be conceived as pleasure and the absence of pain to be an intrinsic value, moreover, Kant states that one's thinking that they have moral worth for its own sake is enough to be considered oneââ¬â¢s good will. In addition, he conceives people to be autonomous moral agents who have moral worth that is intrinsic and it is this, more than anything that makes them deserve moral respect. This hypothesis of Kant is sometimes thought of as the respect of personââ¬â¢s theory of morality (Mina 24). According to Kant, some objections to the moral theory have been there because of the fact that it is not always in the best interests of somebody to tell the truth. Sometimes, the truth is not always, what is needed and instead it can be extremely detrim ental to a person or those who are around him. For example, it would not be a person's best interests to tell a killer where his best friend is if this killer intends to kill his friend. Instead, this person has to lie to the killer to ensure that the life of his best friend is saved and in the process, the moral theory as stated by Kant ceases to function. Kant's moral theory is exceedingly limited to the telling of the truth, and it does not include those circumstances when the truth may not necessarily be a marvelous thing in the end. Still, the belief that one is
